A MOMENT WITH: Vesna from Locus Photo

How did you decide to become a photographer?

I got my first camera when I was 9 and immediately fell in love with it. To giving birth to my daughter, my husband gifted me a DSLR and before I knew it, I was on maternity leave and quickly gaining recognition for my work.

Tell us a bit about yourself, what do you like to do in your spare time?

My motto in life is to have mini retirements through my life, so every month that starts with a ‘J’ I’m off travelling with my family.

What is your favourite part about your work, particularly with photographing weddings?

I love the moment when the father sees his little girl in a wedding dress for the first time, and the look on little girls faces when they look at the bride. I adore the teary eyes and laughter that occurs throughout the day, as well as hearing the newlyweds love stories.

What do you do to prepare for photographing a wedding?

I make sure I’ve had an early night and prepare all my gear the night before, set google maps with all addresses and two separate alarms to ensure I always get there on schedule.

What are you excited about for your business this year, and for the future?

After 10 years of running my business from home, I have finally moved into an amazing studio space.  I am also travelling to Europe for a few weddings soon, so I’m looking forward to doing more weddings around the world in the years to come.

How do you capture the true essence of a couple?

I know so many photographers say that don’t pose their couples, but I like to lead and direct my couples into the photo. You’ll often catch me cracking jokes to capture a beautiful photo of the couple laughing.

What is your advice to couples for choosing the right photographer?

You need a photographer that you connect with, someone who loves what they do, has a compassionate personality and are willing to accommodate your requests.
I believe wedding photographers need to be very speedy, as special moments pass quickly. The best advice would be have a coffee with your photographer and check the quality of their albums and prints, which will let you know if they’re the right fit for your wedding.

What can we expect from you at the expo this year?
